How to tell the Tomato Hornworm (Manduca quinquemaculatus) from the Tobacco Hornworm (Manduca sexta). There are other ways but for now let's just say:

1) Carolina Sphinx - Hodges#7775 (Manduca sexta)
tobacco hornworm
has a reddish, orangish, yellowish horn and is usually curved down

2) Five-spotted Hawk Moth - Hodges#7776 (Manduca quinquemaculatus)
tomato hornworm
has a dark blue horn that may appear black and is usually straight
