(DONE) 2014-6-27 & 6-28 - Overnight in Maryland
David picked me up Friday afternoon after work. Before taking me to dinner at Mamie's (Melissa had to work that night) we took a walk around the grounds. Back from dinner, after dark, I took a few pictures of some night-time bugs by the outside light. I took a walk around again after breakfast on Saturday until it was time to leave for Susquehanna State Park where David and Melissa were planning to hike. I stayed behind and walked a path next to the Susquehanna River. At one end there was a bench for resting and, at the other end, a fallen tree trunk across the path afforded some rest in deep shade. We returned home and soon Karen joined us for lunch and then it was "goodbye" again. ~ Mom

At the front of the house, this Clematis is doing very well. It's a replacement for the Mandevilla that didn't make it through the winter.

The foundation border is lush, but I'm looking forward to checking out the flower at the bend in the walk.

By the garage is a fem. Eastern Pondhawk

A Chinese Mantis nymph started out on the green leaf but soon found a better hiding place.

Behind the garage Japanese Beetles on an Ostrich Fern frond. Almost every beetle in this picture is mating.

I'll bet there are a lot more Blueberries ripe now than when I was there.

Garter Snake. Found this guy warming up heading back to house to get ready for the trip to the park.

Fall Webworm caterpillar at Susquehanna State Park. This is the northern version with black head and pale hairs.

Susquehanna River. D&M went for a hike and I stayed on the River Trail near the parking lot.

Still don't know what it is. Saw 10 to 15 floating by in a group a few minutes later. I guess it's trash.

Got excited to see this. Am hoping it's my mother's roast beef seasoning.

This is the bench I rested on at one end. The other end had a fallen trunk across the path. Perfect.

The tiny speck of pale color near the tip of the leaf turned out to be a micro-moth maybe about 1/4" across.

Northern Cricket Frog. I had to chuckle at the name when I looked it up. At the time I was chasing it and taking pictures I thought it was a cricket.

Rock Run Grist Mill at the parking lot. A lot of people with tripods and long/big lenses taking pictures but I managed to squeeze them out of the shot.

Back at D&M's there's time for another walk around while waiting for Karen and a ride home.

A peach-colored Assassin Bug.

Slaty Skimmer. This dragonfly was the perfect ending to this visit. Like most of the insects photographed, this also was a first for me.
