KAREN'S GALLERY (est. 2005)

6/23/11 - bequeathed but not bestowed yet - Aunt Elizabeth's cedar-lined metal chest to store feather beds and pillows.

6/23/11 - Aunt Elizabeth's metal chest which she used to make her move from Germany to US in 1920's. Chest is old and well worn. Latches work, and even lock is still in working order. The keys are still present along with a tag "Eliz. Meyer" written in her own hand. The carrying straps are heavy leather strops, are both still attached and in working order. Other than that, it looks well worn. Considering it's almost 100 years old, it looks darned good! Inside it has some kind of paper lining which I believe is over a thin wood layer. I never checked to see if that's so, or if it's cedar. There is definitely a scent in the chest. The scent is not unpleasant. If I had any doubts at all about the scent, I would never store my mother's feather beds and pillows in it, and that's what I use it for.

Ah, yes. I just remembered, during my last move (from Kevin's to Karen's) one of the leather carrying straps broke.
