KAREN'S GALLERY (est. 2005)

6/23/11 - As of today Karen has, and still wants to continue to have, 1 feather bed and 2 feather pillows. She'll also get mine.

At the moment they're both being stored in Aunt Elizabeth's metal chest (the one she used to come to the States with).

These feather beds are from Germany. I remember going with my mother to Bayreuth where she had the feathers dry cleaned in preparation of our move to USA. The casings were opened and the feathers put into some huge drum thingie where they were cleaned. After some time the feathers were put back into their casings and the casings sewn up, all on a while-u-wait basis. It was a very exciting day for a 9-year-old.

Oma offered one to each of her children and that's how I got to have one. I think Brigitte took one too. At some point Oma was going to throw out the last one she had and I begged her for it. Karen loves them as much as I do, so she's getting them both.

p.s. - I did ask each of the boys some years ago if they were interested and they declined.
