REISHI, LING ZHI (Ganoderma lucidum)
Unusual in that it's hard and tough, looks like it has a lacquered finish on cap and stem, and can last for months. Also, this one was found growing on the forest floor, as was the young one, and not attached to a tree, as research indicates most are. Perhaps it was affixed to a root that we failed to notice at the time...
