Eastern or Red-spotted Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens) - juv., Eft stage

Hawk Mtn., PA (May 13, 2006) - Too bad the frog was quicker than the camera. That would have been a great shot to get! Salamanders live on land or in or near water. Adult newts stick mostly to water. The eft, the young newt, stays mostly on land.
