Northern Cricket Frog (Acris crepitans) 6/28/14 Susquehanna State Park, near Havre de Grace, MD

I keep wanting to call it the "Nine-spot".
It's a member of the Tree Frog family but this one doesn't live in the trees.

Wikipedia says: "The northern cricket frog is one of North America's two smallest vertebrates, ranging from 19–38 mm (0.75–1.50 in) long." How neat is that?!

While I was walking a shady part of the River Trail, I saw what I thought was a cricket jumping ahead of my feet. I could barely make it out. I started taking pictures hoping that one would catch the little critter during one of it's stops.

I guess all it wanted was for me to stop walking because as soon as I did, it stopped also. It was very camouflaged on the forest floor and I really couldn't see it with my naked eye, so I had to use a nearby leaf as a reference point to where I thought the "cricket" was.

Fingers crossed, I kept taking pictures and hoped that something would turn out. Later on I had a chuckle when I found out it's name.

I told David & Melissa about the tiny little frog and she said she sees little ones all the time and feeds them to the chickens. Well, this one was far enough away from the chickens, but who knows what ravenous related avis was on a branch at the trail and just waiting for me to leave.
