TIPULA ABDOMINALIS (subgenus Nippotipula)
-Beware of Tipula metacomet, a close relative.
-Update 6/11/2016: The following link: https://ojs.lib.byu.edu/spc/index.php/wnan/article/viewFile/30054/28517
will bring up a .PDF file with a description of the undescribed T. metacomet. (note to self: see also nature pdf folder for file named "30054-33458-1-PB.pdf" - - and while I'm at it and wondering why one would describe a species and call it undescribed, there's this -from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species_affinis
"An author who inserts n.sp., or sp.nov., aff before a species name thereby states the opinion that the specimen is a new, previously undescribed species, but that there may not (yet) be enough information to complete a formal description. To use aff. alone, implies that the specimen differs suggestively from the holotype but that further progress is necessary to confirm that it is a novel species.") - - and all of this update because someone posted a photo at bg of a crane fly with a neat wing that looks similar to T. abdominalis.
