Sallow Sedge (Carex lurida) 2016-6-10 Newark, DE

"The most distinctive characteristic of Sallow Sedge is the yellowish appearance of its pistillate spikelets."

Sallow Sedge tends to have fewer veins (7-12) on the perigynia (the individual, fleshy seed capsule) and also has plumper or wider perigynia. Porcupine Sedge (Carex hystericina) tends to have more veins (15-20) and a more slender or thinner peryginia.

I took a quick peek at the BONAP distribution map and I don't think there's anyplace in the Northeast where this can't be found.
