Reddish-brown Stag Beetle (Lucanus capreolus) 26mm sans mandibles - 2013-7-9 Newark Oaks, DE

Was sitting on the steps of the porch at night when I saw what looked like a bit of leaf sticking up between the floorboards. When I reached over to push it down it *moved*. Yikes! I went inside to turn on the light and get the camera. I'm glad I did. I was hoping for a long time for a really big bug/beetle/whatever because the little stuff is killing my eyes. Got my wish!
