Eastern Prickly Pear Cactus (Opuntia humifusa)

2015-5-9 Patuxent Research Refuge, Anne Arundel County, Laurel, MD
-It'll be blooming in June and July
-Native winter hardy grows as far north as Montana and Wisconsin - the further north, the more unlikely it is to find.
-Plants.usda states it's already rare in Pennsylvania.
-It likes to lay down so it's useful for a groundcover
-I grew it in New Jersey and, yes, its fruit is edible
