1960 - Brigitte, Oma Meyer, Karolina, Walter (see description) The reason you won't see me wearing eyeglasses in Wildwood pictures while Uncle Harry was alive is because he wouldn't allow them. He firmly believed that my eyes would improve without them. Every September coming back from Wildwood I needed to go to the eye doctor and get a new, stronger prescription. It became especially difficult for me to see when I became a teenager. That stopped after he died.

When I began working I copied S.P.S. and got my first pair of contacts in 1966. At that time the lenses in glasses were still made of glass and mine had become terribly heavy.

In my late teens, early 20's the eye doctor told me I was legally blind. After I started with bifocals I had to give up the new-fangled gas-permeable lenses. I went back to glasses, and thankfully by that time, they were made of plastic (very light) and a lot easier on the old smeller.

While living in Mickleton I read about a new experimental surgery where they were reshaping the cornea with lasers. Ever since then I've wanted laser surgery on my eyes so that I could finally get rid of glasses forever.

I wish I could be around to see what the future holds in store for you and your children!
