SALT RIVER CANYON, PAINTED DESERT, AZ
TUESDAY 7/17/12 - A couple of scenic spots from our long drive (about 6 hours) to Gallup, NM. We're on our way to the Grand Canyon, but it will take a couple more days to get there.

The riverbed winding through the towns after Phoenix is usually dry except for monsoon season when the arroyos flood.

We leave the mountainous terrain of the Salt River Canyon and soon we'll be on flat ground again.

As we head towards Gallup, New Mexico, where we'll stay the night, we drive through the Painted Desert.
