2016-5-12 - TREE TRIMMING
Never got to see a squirrel in action before.

Red Oak in the middle of May, not completely leafed out yet.

The heavy machinery moves into place. They use sturdy rubber mats to avoid leaving wide gashes in the lawn from the tires.

The squirrel poses for me. What a hunk! That tree is bigger than I first thought. hmmm... what?... oh...

The bottom is cleaned off.

Squirrel maneuvering higher. What happens to the branches that have been cut?

A steel cable gets pulled over to the tree.

The winch pulls the branch in.

Sometimes there was a bit of a juggle getting the wood up and in.

I had a hard time believing my eyes the size of the wood the chipper can handle. These weren't the biggest branches.

Almost done, one more branch to take off on the left before the tree comes down.

The tree top gets pulled over, the larger portion of the trunk gets sawed off and then, yes, there's a little room left in the hopper for the rest of the top.

The middle of the tree is down.

The lower section is cut.

The jaws come and move the sections of trunk.

Working the cable around in order to pull out the last section. This reminds me of, instead of a head, a Monty Python full-body pinch.

There you have it. That's all that's left of the tree; a few sections of wood, a hopper full of chips.

Like a novelist autographing a book, the squirrel signs his work, "Aneryis yo".

A few weeks later, the animal life (including me) has adjusted to the new hole in the scenery.
