KAREN'S GALLERY (est. 2005)

The landing

In the corner is a walking stick that David carved when he was a Boy Scout. It's made from a Sassafras sapling. It was gray and weathered and, when still living in Mickleton, he didn't want it anymore, I couldn't bear to part with it so I gave it a coat of shoe polish and polished it. I already used it here one day when my back was hurting too much from all the moving and being on my feet from unpacking. There's also a slate board on which I write seasonal messages. It's not the one I used in school in Germany with slate pencils, but it's just about the right size and shape and also has a great deal of meaning for me.

Now turn your head right.
