DHA honored for work with non-profit

DANVILLE Sixty-year-old Alfred Steiner had been unemployed for quite a while and the recession didnt help.
Learning about Experience Works and now being hired by the Danville Housing Authority in its maintenance department has changed his life.
It gave me the opportunity to show what I can do, Steiner said about his machinery and maintenance background. Im just thrilled. Its good to have a job.
Steiner talked about his experience and appreciation for Experience Works and the DHA at a ceremony Thursday honoring the DHA as being the 2010 Experience Works Host Agency Champion. The award is given to one host agency, a nonprofit agency or public entity, in the state each year. The DHA has been an Experience Works partner since 2005.
Experience Works is a federally-funded, national nonprofit, training and employment organization for workers 55 and older.
Its been in existence for about 45 years first being known as Green Thumb and provides job training to low-income workers in 30 states and Puerto Rico and helps them get back into the work force.
