KAREN'S GALLERY (est. 2005)

2015-8-9 - Sieglind's measuring cups go from 1-1/4 cups up to 8 cups (that's a half a gallon!) and they come with a story . . .

I have a story about 6 little cups that Momi had on
a mantel in her kitchen when I was growing up in Brooklyn. I say little to big,
different sizes! When I was a little girl she told me that when she was a
little girl her grandmother often pointed to them in her house and told her
that one day she would give them to her and then proceeded to tell her how she
got them.

She went across the border into Czechoslovakia with the pretense of
bringing wood back in her backpack. The border was patrolled but any one could
pass. Her grandmother lived in Erzgebirge which is very close to the border.
She must have bought the cups, put them in her backpack and added some wood on
top and I guess she was trying to avoid paying custom fees? I am not sure of the
reason.

Anyway they were bestowed to my mother who then bestowed them to me and just
like her grand-mother she would often say" now these are your cups for when you
have a home of your own!" I have them in my china cabinet and now I am going to
take some photos of them to show you! I am thinking that they must be over a
hundred years old.
