1928 - Mengersdorf 1928: Margaret Meyer with an aunt (sister to her mother) and her cousin (daughter of aunt) visiting from Thüringen. (see description) Mother wrote: Mengersdorf beim Streu hacken. "Streu" literally translated means "straw". Here, however, "Streu" is being used as a colloquialism, short for "gestreu", meaning "litter". The branch and twig litter from the trees after they were cut down was always referred to as "gestreu" or "'streu", depending on whether or not you were in high or low company. :o)
