2016-9-29 - IRFANVIEW - . . . get CREATED TIME to show UNDERNEATH THE PICTURE - check description and comments to see if there are updates after this date

2016-9-29 - I thought it would help to have the notes next to the picture but want them here also. I can update this a lot easier if there are changes.

In order for the CREATED TIME (the time the picture was taken) to show UNDERNEATH THE PICTURE, I had to follow the steps below. They're a bit of a kludge, and the results look like it, but at least I now can also see the TIME the picture was taken and not only when it was created on the PC. This eliminates the constant extra clicking to get to the information from EXIF.

- go to Options, Properties, Viewing, scroll down to last line and click HELP box
- under the heading of "...EXIF tags/placeholders" I chose to use $E306
-the last line under Viewing options says: "Statusbar text (right field)"
-I replaced content with "time created: $E306" (original content was: $M)

The DATE the picture was created already shows in another field (see #2) but I have not been able to figure out how to get ONLY the TIME to show up in the new field on the right (see #1) and that's why it, #1, gives the date again). I have also not figured out some of the other obvious shortcomings in that field.

What I really would like is for the system "short time", *9:56 AM*,
to show up under the picture where I now have military time. I
*think* the short time may have to be in EXIF first but am not sure.

There is also the annoyance of the CREATED time only showing up the FIRST time the picture is opened (#1) and thereafter reverting to only showing the system-created time (#2).

Well, that didn't take long. I decided to put $M back where it was, but as an addition, after the new date time.

    That line now reads:

    time created - $E306 $M
