Bloodroot and seed pod.

Bloodroot and seed pod. (see description) The plant's juice is like blood in color and consistency. The roots of the plant are red. Sanguinaria is Latin for bleeding. Native Americans used the root in tea to treat lung ailments and fevers and as an emetic. The juice was used topically to treat ringworm, eczema, warts and skin tags. Today it is used in small amounts in some toothpastes to treat gum disease.
