Susquehannock State Park, PA (5/10/15) www9 part 3
As a last-minute stop, Karen decided to take a run up to Susquehannock on our way home from Patuxent. It was a great day for raptors at Hawk Point. The wind was right and we got close looks. The outlook was full of people and many children. Eventually the outlook emptied and since we didn't see anything we hadn't already seen we thought we'd leave too, when at that moment of walking away Karen called out a Peregrine in flight. Things like that happen every so often and make a day more memorable.

The wind was strong and the raptors were moving fast *and* close!

This is the place I saw my first Weevil and since it was a Nut and Acorn Weevil, I wanted to lock down the ID on the tree.

Last year I suspected this as a Shagbark Hickory. Now I'm torn between Shagbark and Shellbark Hickory.

To get a better look at the bark I cropped the previous picture and got a big surprise. Eastern Tent Caterpillars were all up and down the tree.

Down in the river some folks stopped for a dip in the water. It's early in May and the water must have been awfully chilly!
