This was a Mother's Day surprise birding trip. I was so busy gabbing that I didn't notice we'd gone over the bridge and only became aware once we were on Rt. 40. It's been many years since I've been in Jersey and I was sorry to see that Richman's ice cream stop is no more.

Our first stop is at the dam. Carp up to a foot and half to two feet long were spawning, and Swallows were flying.

Across the street from the dam is the spillway. Usually Red-bellied Turtles cover the logs, but they were hard to find today.

We walk back to the parking lot and before leaving check out the pond. An Arrowleaf plant steals the show.

Thundergust Lake, across from what used to be the Nature Center. Our walk begins at the dock.

Sunny nests, and each one is occupied. There'll be good fishing this Summer.

I thought the Mallard wasn't paying attention to me until I got a close look at the picture.

Still on the cabin side of the lake, this is the beach area.

Karen sees movement on a dead log. It's a Six-spotted Tiger Beetle.

The nest is always in the same location it appears. Here one of the Mute Swans makes repairs.

The spore-bearing fronds of the Cinnamon Fern are ripening.

We're at the end of the lake getting ready to cross "adventure creek bridge". This is the creek that feeds Thundergust.

The light is better heading up the other side of the lake.

An opening shows a quiet lake and the cabins on the other side.

After a bit of a rest at a picnic table, it's time to continue.

Approaching the spill way at the top of the lake, Karen spots Cedar Waxwings.

We're back where we started. The view is back up to the spillway at the top of the lake.

We sit at a picnic table under a blooming Dogwood behind the Nature Center.

We leave to head up to Mickleton for a quick look-see at the old homestead before dark.
