(PC) HIGH POINT STATE PARK, NJ (2015-5-25 to 5-31)
A week in a 3-bedroom cabin near Steenykill Lake. High Point isn't just a high point in New Jersey, it's the highest point in New Jersey. There is a large monument there to mark the highest elevation in the state at 1803 feet. There is much to do there: 50 miles of trails, including the Appalachian trail that runs through the park; catching a bad sunburn on a beach at one of their lakes, or just lazing around the cabin. And, sometimes the trip home can hold a surprise!

Monday - We took a walk and found a huge section of forest that was nothing but Ferns. No, not just this little piece you see in the picture, but a huge area!

We found out later this is called "Starflower".

It's a large cabin with the usual picnic table.

There are also a couple of comfortable Adirondack chairs near the grill.

The wood shed is in back of the cabin along with another picnic table.

A Phoebe was busy at the nest under the eaves of the porch.

There's a fireplace with a wood stove in it.

The cabin has three bedrooms, these doors go into two of them.

The kitchen has everything we need and the fridge is on the wall behind us. Of course, there's a bathroom also - with a shower.

We're at a higher elevation (on a mountain) so we see more boulders and rocks and that's a nice change from sea level forest trails.

Thursday - Michael does a part of the Appalachian trial.

On the trail he meets a very healthy, very large, Snapper Turtle!

Saturday - We visit the High Point monument.

Vacation weather isn't always perfect. Sometimes the wind blows signs down and the rain makes a mess of them.

At a diner on the way home we spot a 1967 convertible Chevy Camaro SS.

We were told this car was bought from Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives", a TV show Karen is fond of watching.
