Kevin had owed me a Mother's Day trip to the Hook for about 6 years, maybe longer. I almost didn't want to collect because I enjoyed reminding/teasing him about it from time to time. But, since he was at home "relaxing" for an extended period (post-op since Oct. 6) and was due to go back to work the beginning of the new year, I thought it might be nice to get him outside in the fresh air for a day. To make it all more bearable for him I invited Karen and Michael to come along. I think we all enjoyed ourselves, I know I did.

Michael was the first to spot and ID the Mockingbird.

At the corner by the bench are these super fresh tracks. Maybe Raccoon, am not 100%.

At the next turn there are more tracks. They're smaller than the previous ones and not as fresh. They're so small I think they're probably Muskrat tracks.

Snow Geese mostly and some Canada Geese. Along the farthest edge of the water on the left and right are a few Tundra Swans.

The two stripes of white in the water along the horizon are rafts of Snow Geese.

American Mistletoe

American Mistletoe - I've been waiting a long time to get a decent picture of the berries. Now to get the flowers (there's always something else).

Curious about the red blanket on the water, I find out it's an aquatic fern, the Eastern Mosquito-fern.

Growing amongst the water fern, is Floating Pennywort, a native plant, if a bit aggressive from time to time.

Floating Pennywort, it prefers water to grow in.

We must be getting complacent, there's no picture of a Great Blue Heron with which to end the day.
