This is the refuge office view from parking lot. Asters are blooming.

Asters remind me of Germany. My mother used to grow them in her garden.

The flowers remind me of Ironweed, but I don't know what it is.

The car tour is 13 miles long. In this view the salt marsh is on the right and the large fresh-water ponds are on our left.

Bombay Hook was loaded with Cormorants.

they were more common today than Egrets

They were sitting in any old snag or tree they could find.

This one was closer than most. On the return trip, as we were leaving, there were two perched here.

This is a special kind of Stink Bug. It only lives in coastal areas. (Chlorochroa senilis)

I shout for Karen to stop the car. Something BIG flew in back there!

Barred Owl has been seen here, but no such luck today, it's another heron.

There's the Great Blue before we got too close and it flew off.

Snowy Egret. Black bill, dark legs, and bright yellow feet.

The Great Egret has greenish lores (the spot between the bill and eye).

Before and after. The after isn't all that great, but it's better than nothing.

The speed limit is 25. When we're actively looking for birds we joke about it when we get up to 15 mph.

I want to take a picture of "the burning bush". The picture doesn't do justice to the bright orange caused mostly by the lowering sun.
